The Hoboken Public Library is seeking an energetic, innovative librarian with passion for library services to children.

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Children’s Services, performs responsible and varied professional and technical work for the Children’s Department. This includes circulation services, reference and reader’s advisory guidance, technical services, and children’s programming.

Reports directly to Senior Children’s Librarian/Department Head.

Schedule includes evening and weekend hours.

Supervises the Children’s Department in the absence of the Children’s Services Librarian.

Primary Responsibilities:
 Understands and is able to perform all jobs related to lending library materials, registering patrons, receiving and processing reserves and hold requests
 Assists in planning and conducting story hours and other children’s programs
 Plans and conducts Makerspace programs in coordination with Creation Space team
 Assists in children’s collection building and maintenance
 Assists with maintaining statistics on Children’s Department activities, and provides periodic reports of same, as directed
 Assists in preparing bibliographies, flyers, bulletin boards, displays, and publicity for the Children’s Department
 Assists the Children’s Services Librarian and Senior Library Assistant in training and overseeing the work of children’s department staff
 Assists with circulation, reference, and technical services in other departments as needed
 Supervises all library operations on occasion, as assigned
 Facilitates outreach with local schools and youth serving organizations
 Sometimes works in multiple locations including Pop-Up libraries and Library Corners throughout the city

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 ALA accredited MLS and NJ Professional Librarian Certification
 Thorough knowledge of public library services and programs
 Possesses a solid general education and especially familiar with children’s literature and resources
 Comfortable working with children
 Familiarity with modern library technologies, including downloadable and e-resources
 Ability to learn equipment of HPL Creation Space
 Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, with the library’s business contacts, and with other staff
 Ability to understand and interpret library policies

Compensation:
Salary – $52,819, full benefits package (health and pension benefits, vacation and sick time). Civil Service Position.
