1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is now

on Beanstack!

It’s as simple as it sounds: make a goal to read 1,000 books to your child before Kindergarten. And yes, repeats count! If you read the same book 10 times, it counts as 10 books.

1,000 books may seem like a lot, but if you read one book each night, you’ll reach your goal in less than three years.

Participating is easy:

  • Log in or create a Beanstack account.
  • Enter the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge.
  • Log your reading to earn badges!
  • Show your badges to our librarians in the Children’s Room to get a special sticker or coloring sheet!

Libraries across the country are using this program to increase the development of early literacy skills in young children, because every child should have free access to early literacy programs.

Here are just a few of the concrete benefits of early literacy:
  • Vocabulary building.
  • Brain development.
  • Academic success.
  • Multi-sensory development.
  • Increased quantitative reasoning.
  • Emotional awareness.
Every book counts! Happy Reading.
Any child not yet enrolled in Kindergarten can participate.
