The maker movement in the United States isn’t just a hobby; it’s having a significant impact on school curriculum and boosting local economies. To celebrate making and maker culture, the Hoboken Public Library is participating in the statewide Makers Days festival on Friday 3/25 and Saturday 3/26.

Friday 3/25
Light & Shadow: Story Time and Exploration – NJ Makers Day 10:30 am
Join us for a story time and exploration
How does light interact with objects and surfaces? What creates a shadow? Use these fun activities created by The Franklin Institute to investigate and be a scientist. Join us for a science-based story time and exploration on Zoom!
Animal Crossing Escape Room! – in the TeenZone – NJ Makers Day 3 pm
Join us for an Animal Crossing themed Escape Room!
Can you escape the TeenZone (in Annex 1 next to the Main Branch) when it’s been transformed into an Escape Room where animals roam? (Well, not actual animals.) Find out if you’re up to this challenge.
LEGO Block Party – in the Library – NJ Makers Day 3:30 pm
Show Mr. Adam your amazing LEGO building techniques
It all happens in the in the Small Programming Room. Come on in and show us how you transform all those little blocks into mind-boggling creations. Each Block Party features 30 minutes of free build-time, followed by 30 minutes when you get to show us what you’ve built.
Saturday 3/26
Take & Make: Fluffy Slime – Pick it up here, slime it up at home – NJ Makers Day 10 am – 5 pm
Come pick up a Fluffy Slime Kit in the Children’s Room, and then create your own slime at home!
Slime kits are given out on a first come, first served basis.
The Science of Magic! – in the Library – NJ Makers Day 11 am
This workshop will astound you!
Join us in the Large Programming Room for a workshop with Mad Science. The Science of Magic will surprise and delight you (and you’ll learn a thing or two, too) as you learn how magicians use your assumptions and perceptions about how the world works to entertain you.
Makers Day Showcase – in the Library – NJ Makers Day 1 pm – 3 pm
Makerbar founder Andrew Bellware shows off a few fun and fantastic DIY maker projects – a drone-synth and the egg-painting-bot.
The Hoboken Public Library presents the Makers Day Showcase, where local makers show off a few of their projects. Learn how science, technology, and design can merge into the sublime and amazing with the DIY spirit!
