Position Title: Library Assistant, IT/Collection Development

Location: Hoboken, New Jersey

Scheduled hours: 25 hours per week. Daytime, evening, and weekend hours are required.

Salary: $17.37/hour

About the Position:

Reporting to the IT Manager, this position performs various tech support, paraprofessional, and detailed library duties. There will be a strong emphasis on working in the newly opened MakerSpace. Prospective employees will be willing to demonstrate a desire to work with staff to promote and use various Maker equipment, learn and have a competence on using the various systems and be able to take responsibility for portraying that knowledge to others. This position also assists with collection processing and repairs. Performance will be reviewed periodically to ensure compliance with policy, procedures, and standards.

Examples of Work:

Support in installing, configuring and testing new computer hardware, software, systems, printers, and scanners and connecting equipment to the appropriate network
Monitoring and updating computer systems and software, including Google Chrome, Windows OS and Adobe CC
Responding in a timely manner to service issues and requests
Providing technical support across Library facilities (in person, over the phone or on Slack)
Aiding in setting up accounts for new users
Providing A/V Support for programs
Taking regular Inventory and Audits of A/V and Tech Equipment
Troubleshooting printer issues and providing support for ink and toner replacement
Process books, media, and other materials for the collection
Maintain and update cataloging records in online catalog software
Inspecting books, media for damage and repairing items as needed
Pushing book carts with library materials
Shifting books as needed to make room for new library materials
Work includes prolonged standing, sitting, bending and lifting/ moving library materials
Working at all Library Branch locations as needed
Maintaining a clean and neat work environment
Providing outstanding customer service
Performing other related duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent customer service skills
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Ability to learn complex computer systems
Adaptability to a flexible work schedule
Knowledge of G-Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe CC, Slack, Happeo, Canva, WordPress, Zoom
Previous library work experience preferred
Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish is highly desirable.
