Tax Assistance at the Hoboken Public Library
The library is hosting free income tax preparation assistance provided by AARP’s IRS certified volunteer tax preparers. This service is designed to help eligible individuals and households accurately prepare and electronically file their federal and state income tax returns at no cost.
AARP volunteers are trained to assist with common tax situations and ensure returns are completed with care and confidentiality. This program is open to the community, with a focus on older adults and those with moderate income, though all eligible individuals are welcome.
Appointments are required and availability is limited. You can see available dates and register for this and other library programs using the calendar on the library website homepage. Please note, after you are registered, you will be emailed your time slot for the day.
Please review eligibility requirements and bring all necessary tax documents to your appointment to ensure a smooth and efficient experience.
Eligibility Requirements:
– Have lived in New Jersey for all of 2025.
– Have a Social Security number or ITIN number that allows you to work in the US.
– Work only in New Jersey or New York, or have other taxable income.
– NOT have income from rental property or a business with employees, inventory, a loss, or over $50,000 in total expenses, or be a “For Hire Driver”. (Uber, Lyft, etc.)
– Other restrictions may apply. If you have an unusual situation, please ask about restrictions before making your appointment.
